COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

All NYCOS Activities & Events Suspended

All NYCOS activities and events including concerts, training events, National Choir courses, Regional Choir rehearsals and Mini Music Makers classes are to be suspended from Tuesday 17 March until Sunday 19 April.

We will seek to reschedule as many activities and events as possible. As this situation is rapidly evolving it will take us some time to determine what activity can be postponed to a later date.

NYCOS has taken this decision to ensure the safety, wellbeing and health of our participants and staff. Although schools in Scotland remain open we must provide adequate staffing levels to both ensure the safety of our participants and the quality of their NYCOS experience.

We will be contacting all of those impacted by this decision directly. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work through the implications of this action.

Further updates will be posted here.

Update 20 March

With the announcement that schools and nurseries in Scotland will shut, most likely until the new academic year, NYCOS can confirm that regular Regional Choir rehearsals and Mini Music Makers classes will not be going ahead as normal.

NYCOS, however, is here to stay and we will be moving as much activity as possible online.

It is essential that children and young people continue to have a weekly structure and are still able to learn, interact and have fun with each other. That’s why our staff are testing live online alternatives for our Mini Music Makers and Regional Choir musicianship classes as well as creating online resources and activities for our choir members and the public alike. Naturally, we want to provide a high-quality learning experience and thank you for your continuing patience and understanding as we test and create. We will be contacting parents/carers next week with more detail.

We are seeking to rearrange National Choir courses to later in the year and will contact families directly.

We are posting songs, musical games and daily activities that you can play at home (or in school) without contact to keep developing your musicianship skills and have fun.
