National Choirs
Chamber Choir
Ages: 18 - 25A choir for very experienced and capable singers, chosen from the current membership of the National Youth Choir of Scotland.
The Chamber Choir was formed in 2022 to offer additional high-level performance opportunities to experienced National Youth Choir of Scotland singers. Building on the experience of 26 years of NYCOS, Christopher Bell has chosen 22 singers to become our first Leverhulme Scholars.
Following intensive rehearsals, the choir officially launched at the Lammermuir Festival in September 2023 to great acclaim singing music by Britten, Dove, Shaw and MacMillan. Future plans include performances at UK festivals, recordings and some concerts on tour around Scotland and elsewhere.
The Chamber Choir is fully supported by The Leverhulme Trust.

“If the full forces of the senior choir have already impressed some of the world’s top conductors in performances in Edinburgh, London, Europe and the United States, this elite unit of between 20 and 30 young voices is a refinement of that success.”

Auditions
Members of the Chamber Choir are amongst the most promising young singers in the UK and admission to the choir is for current members of NYCOS 2023 and is by audition.
What to sing at the audition
Audition for the Chamber Choir is a little more extensive. You will sing prepared extracts from choral works, a prepared song, read at sight, and do a range test.
Audition Locations
Depending on numbers, auditions may be held in Aberdeen, Dumfries, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Perth.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are organised as appropriate, some times over a few days with accommodation provided. In some instances music is sent ahead of time and you are expected to prepare it beforehand.
Concerts & Engagements
The Chamber Choir undertakes high-profile concerts and tours, working in venues where the large flagship choir cannot perform. The repertoire is challenging and is dictated by the requirements of concert promoters and radio/TV requirements.
Costs & Financial Assistance
There is no cost to be a member of the Chamber Choir. The choir is supported by The Leverhulme Trust. All travelling costs and any accommodation is provided as necessary.
