Primary Level One: Lucinda Geoghegan

Start dates: Saturday 7 & Sunday 8 November, 16:00 GMT

A ten-week block of classes focussing on the age group 4 to 7 (10 sessions of 90 mins).
These workshops will include the following topics:

  • What is meant by a Kodály inspired curriculum?
  • Understand the three stages of unconscious, conscious and reinforcement
  • Providing a bank of age-appropriate songs and rhymes
  • Elementary Musical reading and writing
  • Performing, improvising and composing
  • Active listening activities
  • Short, medium and long term planning – sequenced learning

Secondary Level One: James Cuskelly

Start date: Sunday 4 October, 9:00 BST

A ten-week block of classes focussing on lower secondary age S1 and S2 (10 sessions of 90 mins).
These workshops will include the following topics:

  • Basis of Kodáy philosophy
  • Understanding the three stages of unconscious, conscious and reinforcement
  • A bank of age-appropriate songs
  • Application in lower secondary
  • Lesson planning – lesson segments, lesson planning and long-term planning and sequenced activities
  • Musical reading and writing
  • Performing, improvisation and composition
  • Introducing part work

NYCOS is a registered provider of the new British Kodály Certificate (Early Years/Primary or Secondary). Each of the stages has three levels as outlined below and is made up of different modules. The methodology modules above can be done for assessment and would count towards the overall certificate.
