Methodology Guide

Early Years Level Two

A ten week block of classes focussing on the age group 3 – 4 (0 sessions of 90 mins). These workshops will include the following topics:

  • General Child Development in the 3 – 4 age group and how music can support holistic development
  • How to choose appropriate repertoire for this age range.
  • Exploring the three stages of learning – unconscious, conscious and reinforcement
  • The importance of essential musical skills to ensure reading readiness for musical reading and writing
  • Inclusion
  • Using picture books to support Musial learning
  • Guidance in planning and progression, aims and objectives, short and long term planning

 


Primary Level One

A ten-week block of classes focussing on the age group 4 to 7 (10 sessions of 90 minutes). These workshops will include the following topics:

  • What is meant by a Kodály inspired curriculum?
  • Understand the three stages of unconscious, conscious and reinforcement
  • Providing a bank of age-appropriate songs and rhymes
  • Elementary Musical reading and writing
  • Performing, improvising and composing
  • Active listening activities
  • Short, medium and long term planning – sequenced learning

 


Primary Level Two

A ten-week block of classes focussing on the age group 7 – 9 (10 sessions of 90 minutes). These workshops will include the following topics:

  • Exploring and discussing the value of singing games appropriate to the age 7 to 9 age range
  • Movement activities for active listening
  • Listening activities: Song stories, Art music, Music from different genres and cultures.
  • How to build on previously learned concepts from Level One
  • What to do with a 7 – 9-year-old beginner to a Kodály inspired curriculum
  • The selection of developmentally appropriate musical material to foster musical learning
  • Analysis of what is being taught through the song material, according to basic musical elements

 


Primary Level Three

A ten-week block of classes focussing on the age group 9 – 11 (10 sessions of 90 minutes). These workshops will include the following topics:

  • How to build on previously learned concepts from Level Two
  • Exploring and discussing the value of singing games appropriate to the age 9 – 11 age range
  • How to develop more advanced rhythmic skills
  • Beginning part singing
  • Developing listening , analytical and compositional skills
  • The selection of more advanced musical material to foster musical learning
  • Analysis of what is being taught through the song material, according to more advanced  musical elements
