Musicianship & Methodology
Accredited in partnership with British Kodály Academy through CPD UK
Since July 2020, we have been running online courses in Musicianship and Methodology and engaged with musicians, class teachers, students and specialists from 23 countries across the world as well as many, many people in the UK. This has been one of the ‘silver linings’ of the pandemic where you can access training in the Kodály approach without leaving the comfort of your own home.
You don’t have to be a trained musician to join us as we have something for every level. These classes are accredited in partnership with British Kodály Academy through CPD UK, however, the assessments are optional.
By attending weekly classes, you have time to assimilate and practice what you have learned. We record the sessions as an aide memoire.

Sounds Musical In-Person Training
NYCOS recognises that now more so than ever, generalist primary teachers are being called upon to teach music in the classroom with fewer music specialists available. Sounds Musical comprises a set of four resources for schools that cover an age range from early years to P7: Sounds Musical for Starters (early years – P1/2), Sounds Musical (P3-P5), Sounds Musical Moving On, and Sounds Musical for Older Beginners (both for P6-7).
The aim of Sounds Musical is to give generalist primary teachers and nursery practitioners the confidence and tools to provide music education in the classroom. It has been developed as a free resource (with teacher packs, picture cards and video demonstrations of all songs/games) that teachers can access as long as they come along to our initial training day to become acquainted with the resource in a practical and meaningful way, and to develop an understanding of the underpinning approach. As there are videos of each song, you do not need to be able to read a musical score to use the resource, it’s designed to be as accessible as possible!
NYCOS YMI tutors are already delivering the resource in schools in our Local Authority Partner areas. If you are a musicianship tutor or instrumental instructor working in early years and primary schools then please also come along – these will be hands-on, activity-packed days, sure to give you lots of ideas to take away and use!
In March 2026, we are offering a mixture of free and paid-for in-person training!
The Sounds Musical Moving On and Sounds Musical for Older Beginners training day is FREE! All that we ask in return is that you consent to being recorded playing the games and singing the songs so that we can finalise the video element of this resource.
You will receive access to the resource for FREE after each training day so secure your spot on our Sounds Musical training today!
