Go for Silver: Moving Forward with NYCOS Musicianship | Online

Adult: £40/ Students: £32 / NYCOS Staff: Free

Whether it’s for use in the classroom or the choir, begin with Bronze then progress to Silver!

Join our Creative Learning Director, Lucinda Geoghegan, for these two 90-minute online sessions, which provide a rounded introduction to teaching the intermediate level of NYCOS musicianship.

This training is intended for those who have completed the Go for Bronze training (or equivalent). It will be assumed that participants will have been introduced to the Kodály philosophy, will have an understanding of simple rhythm names and have a working knowledge of the solfa and hand signs for the pitches of the pentatonic scale.

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Singing games to prepare diatonic scales and compound time
  • Preparation, presentation and practice of pitches fa and ti
  • Preparation, presentation and practice of compound rhythms
  • Key signatures.
  • Relative major and minor keys

Although these are online sessions, they will still be very hands-on, sure to give you lots of ideas to take away and use!

More info on ‘Go for Bronze/Silver/Gold’:

The ‘Go for’ series is our Musicianship Training Program developed by NYCOS Creative Learning Director, Lucinda Geoghegan and NYCOS Artistic Director, Christopher Bell. As this training will be delivered by Lucinda herself, she will be able to offer expert guidance for adults teaching essential musicianship skills.

NYCOS’s comprehensive musicianship training programme for young musicians is for use in schools and choirs with children aged 7 and up, and provides a solid basis for beginning the music reading process and enhancing musical skills.

For anyone already working with Kodály material this is an excellent structured training programme for your pupils. Many instrumental instructors recommend these resources, and both class teachers and music specialists use these materials in schools across the country.

If you want to work with NYCOS choirs or any of our projects, attending training on the ‘Go for’ series is required.

The time zone for all sessions will be Greenwich Mean Time (UTC+0).
