My Voice is Changing

Go for Bronze       Go for Silver       Go for Gold

A series of six workbooks for young choir singers, carefully graded to teach essential musicianship skills using the principles of Zoltán Kodály. Each workbook is intended to take a year in parallel with choir or classroom activities, though the pace may vary to accommodate differing abilities. The starting age could be as young as eight years old.

Activities include games as well as written and singing exercises to be done as a group activity, with the main emphasis to provide the singer with the confidence to sing well at sight and to develop into a valuable member of a choir.

The work is designed to be led by a teacher or choir leader and the books should be used in conjunction with the Teachers Book, available separately.

Singing Games and Rhymes for Middle Years

Singing Games and Rhymes for Middle Years is a continuation of the material and methodology established in the earlier publications, Tiny Tots and Early Years. Like its predecessors, the material is grounded in the ideas of Kodály (and ideal to support Level B/C within the 5-14 Curriculum Guidelines in Scotland and Key Stage 2 in England and Wales) The book is designed for class teachers as well as the more trained music specialist: the songs are arranged in alphabetical order and each singing game/rhyme has step by step instructions. The accompanying CD means that you have everything you need to run a successful programme of music for children aged 7 - 10.

Singing Games and Rhymes for Early Years

Concerned about singing at all levels and age ranges, NYCoS has published this book to provide singing material for Nursery, Primary 1 and Primary 2. Grounded in the ideas of Kodaly (and ideal to support the guidelines within 5-14 document in Scotland and Key Stage 1 in England and Wales) this book is designed for class teachers as well as the more trained music specialist: the material is graded in a progressive way from simple two note melodies with easy actions to more challenging games and songs, and each song is recorded on an accompanying CD to facilitate non music readers.

The book contains 90 songs and rhymes with accompanying games. Full instructions are provided for each song and game and assessment sheets at the end of each year section. Click on the above thumbnails to enlarge a page from each section.

Studies have shown that a structured music programme in the early years based on Singing Games will improve:

social skills

discipline

self esteem

creativity

reasoning skills

listening skills

spatial awareness

memory

co-ordination

fluency of speech

understanding of language

Singing Games and Rhymes for Early Years suggests that using finger puppets will help young children break down their inhibitions and help them sing. Many people have asked where to get puppets, and so we have sourced puppets and can make them available at much reduced prices. For more information visit the NYCoS Puppet Shop.

Singing Games and Rhymes for Tiny Tots

Singing Games and Rhymes for Tiny Tots is a collection of traditional rhymes and songs which have been handed down from generation to generation. Many of the rhymes and songs in this collection have been collected aurally from grandparents. These games are part of our heritage and it is vital that we keep them alive and pass them on to our children. Family life now is much more rushed than it ever was and precious time spent singing to our children is diminishing. As a result our heritage is in danger of being lost and our children are in danger of being the innocent victims of the pressures of modern life.

The material in this book is

Ideal for mothers, fathers and extended family to sing to their babies and toddlers

Suitable for use in the nursery/playgroup

Perfect for day care centres dealing with pre-school children

Accompanying CD helps to teach the songs

My Voice Is Changing!

My Voice is Changing!

Buy this Book

My Voice is Changing is an excellent booklet dealing with the vocal development of boys in a straightforward and readable manner. It is in a question-and-answer format, explaining issues such as voice cracking (muscles taking time to readjust), giving practical advice (never force or strain) and naming and giving ranges for the various stages of the change.
There is space at the back for each boy to chart his own vocal descent, making the experience one of exploration rather than of embarrassment and uncertainty. ....... an ideal aid for parents, choir directors and the boys themselves.

Music Teacher Magazine

I thought that your booklet was very interesting... very helpful.. I did understand what my voice was going through a bit more after I had read it.
