Kick Start Your Choir: Free Conducting Workshops with Michael Bawtree

Booking now open

Have you been given the task of taking the school or church choir? Come and get some ideas from Michael to take away and use!

Focused mainly on upper voice choirs, this short course will work on techniques suitable for directing young people through the fundamentals of choir training and teaching by rote; and through helping them read music and more advanced aspects of choir training. General techniques will be covered and we will have a demonstration choir to let you see how it all works.

NYCoS has had a large and enduring impact on the development of singing in Scotland over the last two decades, and naturally we are often the first port of call when people want to start a choir or informal singing group. Some of these calls come from young adults and recent graduates who have come through the NYCoS programme, but an equal number are from keen enthusiasts who have no experience but have spotted a musical gap in their local community. Following a successful course at NYCoS Summer School in 2017, Kick Start Your Choir is being offered in three locations (tickets are free with advance booking required):

SingAround - Singing Games and Rhymes

Sun 4 March 2018, 2.30 - 5.30pm
Glasgow City Hall, Candleriggs, Glasgow, G1 1NQ

Adults: £30; Students: £10

2017 saw the start of the special memorial year - 135 years of the birth of Zoltán Kodály and 50 years since his death. As we near the end of this special year the British Kodály Academy is organising Sing ARound events around the country.

The well-known Singing Games and Rhymes series of books has travelled all over the world and author Lucinda Geoghegan has gathered more material while on her travels. She has new Singing Games and Rhymes for Early Years and Middle Years for participants to try out, and books with DVDs will be available to buy on the day.

This will be a fun and interactive workshop providing lots of new ideas and material to take away and use in your classroom, choir or games session.  Prior musical knowledge is not required, just a willingness to participate!  A proportion of the attendance fee will go to the British Kodály Academy.
