Choir Director: Graham Boyce email: boyce.g@hotmail.co.uk

Biography

Graham graduated in July 2001 with a B.Ed (Hons) degree from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where he studied singing with John Robertson and piano with Jack Keaney. After graduating, Graham worked as a teacher of Music at Eastbank Academy in Shettleston before moving to his current school, St. Modan’s High School in Stirling. In August 2005 Graham was promoted to Principal Teacher in charge of the school’s very successful School of Ambition programme. This is a unique venture which aims to integrate all ‘extra-curricular’ activities into the structure of the school day. The benefit of these activities is something that Graham is very passionate about in his day-to-day teaching life.

In his time at St. Modan’s Graham has set up and maintained, to great effect, the NYCoS Kodály programme in, not only the secondary school music curriculum, but also in the six feeder primary schools in the cluster.

As a singer, Graham has performed in many choirs around the Stirling area both as a chorus member and as a guest soloist: most notably in performances with the Strathendrick Singers including Haydn Mass in D. It was during his time in the RSAMD that Graham first became a member of NYCoS taking part in the third residential summer course in July 1998. He is very proud to have been involved in all of the National Youth Choir of Scotland’s CD’s and was soloist in Ken Johnston’s moving setting of No Man’s Land in the CD titled There’s Lilt in the Song. He also sang the tenor solo in Leonard Bernstein Chichester Psalms in NYCoS performances with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Graham first began to work for NYCoS as a member of House Staff with the National Boy’s Choir, before becoming a regular member of Music Staff with, firstly the Junior Corps, and now NBC. Graham has also been Head of House Staff for the NBC Tours to Ireland in May 2006, and to Kendall and Dumfries in 2007. In 2004 Graham became a member of Music Staff with the Stirling Choir before moving to his current role as Director of the West Lothian Choir in August 2006.
