Background
The Kodály approach to music training, which ensures that musical elements are learnt while children have fun, is being increasingly recognised in our schools today. Since 2004, NYCoS has been running a training weekend in Glasgow, and it has already become a key fixture in the calendar for singers, class teachers, instrumentalists and choir leaders alike. In 2005, over 300 delegates enjoyed a wide variety of musicianship sessions and workshops and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

You can download a brochure and an application form for your chosen venue. To do this you will need Acrobat Reader. If you do not have that on your computer then click here and download a free copy.
(Please note that the brochures are approximately 600Kb in size and may take some time to download unless you have a broadband connection)
Alternatively you can contact the NYCoS office by telephone or by using the email button below if you wish an application form to be posted to you.

FAQ
I’m not a singer – will I cope?
The musicianship assessment on the application form will help us place you in the appropriate Core Musicianship Class. Don’t worry if you can’t read music, or think you can’t sing – you will not be asked to sing individually or made to feel at all inadequate. Those who have attended in the past went away (literally) singing the praises of the Musicianship leaders!
How large will the classes be?
There should be no more than 20 in a Musicianship class, and no more than 30 in the workshops. This will of course mean that not everyone will be able to do their first choice of workshop.
Will there be any opportunities to purchase resource materials?
Both NYCoS and David Vinden will bring resources to sell. Last year we also invited one of the local music retailers to attend. Depending on space, we would expect to do the same this year. We have made the lunch break longer to give people more time to browse. Our new Songbook will be available to purchase.
Do I have to bring anything with me?
It would a good idea to bring pen and pencil. Paper and manuscript will be provided. Please bring your own bottle of water each day. Coffee, tea and lunch will be provided both days.
Will this course count towards CPD?
NYCoS is a registered CPD provider with GTCS (CPD registration to be taken over by Learning & Teaching Scotland) and will provide a certificate at the end of the course.
If I am not a string player, would the Colourstrings workshops be unsuitable?
You will get a greater benefit from these workshops if you are a string player, but it is not obligatory!
Can I come on the Saturday only?
We were oversubscribed last year, with a waiting list of people wishing to attend both days – if you can come only on the Saturday, then send in the application with a note to that effect. You will be put on a reserve list, and if there are spaces, you will be contacted.
