Office Assistant - Catherine Williams

Catherine was born in Kent but grew up in Leeds, where she attended Abbey Grange CofE High School. Throughout her time at school she sang in the choir, played french horn in the concert band, and also participated in several musical productions, playing both horn and trumpet (sometimes swapping between the two mid-song!).

Her musical education began with instrumental lessons and participation in ensemble groups at Horsforth Music Centre, where she progressed to become a member staff as a teaching assistant. Catherine was a member of the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra, and also played in orchestral ensembles for Leeds Youth Opera productions. During her A-Level studies she was a member of the St Peter’s Singers, a chamber choir based at Leeds Parish Church.

In 2003 Catherine began a BMus (Hons) degree at the University of Glasgow, she focused her studies on musicology, having come to the decision to pursue a career in arts administration. Catherine held a choral scholarship with the University Chapel Choir for three years, before increasing her responsibilities for the Kelvin Ensemble, the student run University orchestra, and taking on the role of librarian. She also volunteered as a library assistant at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. During her long summer holidays Catherine tried to see as much of the world as possible, which included a role as a teaching assistant in rural Swaziland.

Catherine is delighted to be part of the NYCoS team and is looking forward to the exciting developments ahead.
