Biography

Born in Edinburgh, Avril studied French Horn and voice at Napier in Edinburgh and then at the Royal College of Music in London. Singing in college choirs under Sir David Wilcox was a highlight of college years.
Having always had a keen interest in musical development in young children Avril founded ‘Little Stars’ music groups in Manchester using the voice and movement to music as a basis for early musical experiences for very young children.
After being in charge of a music department in Bradford, Avril moved to the Isle of Lewis six years ago where she is a music teacher and has enjoyed working with both primary and secondary pupils there.
Avril has conducted the Back Choir for 5 years, winning prizes at the National Mod including the prestigious Lorne Shield for the last three years. She also arranges a lot of music for Gaelic Choirs.
Avril is absolutely delighted to become part of the NYCOS team and looks forward to being part of this important new opportunity for young singers in the Island.
