NYCoS
is in a position to offer inservice training to staff at a number of
levels.
Lucinda Geoghegan is a
qualified Kodály instructor and has trained us all in Kodály
techniques of musicianship training. Inservice can be offered in full
day, half day or twilight sessions and a course of training can be
tailored to suit your requirements. Although we are basing our work on
singing, a lot of it has implications for instrumental work.
These
sessions are based on a repertoire of games and rhymes contained in our
publication Singing Games and Rhymes
for Tiny Tots and Singing Games and Rhymes
for Early Years. They are designed to give staff the knowledge and
confidence to deliver music with ease. As a result the children will
learn the basics of simple pitching, pulse and rhythm as well as being
allowed to develop their imaginations in games and role-playing etc.

Primary (Middle and Upper stages)
These
sessions are designed to give staff the knowledge and confidence to
introduce more complex singing games to reinforce the basics of simple
pitching, pulse and rhythm. Material will be based on the content of
Singing Games and Rhymes for Middle Years. Staff will be introduced to music notation
through fun activities designed for all children - prior musical
knowledge is not essential, as this new approach helps both staff and
children come to music notation afresh. Repertoire for these sessions
will be structured in an appropriate manner and will include fun action
songs, partner songs and simple rounds.
