Biography
Mark Evans studied music at Glasgow University, where he was a choral scholar in the University Chapel Choir and leader of the University Orchestra, as well as joint conductor of the University Chamber Singers.
After completing his PGCE at Strathclyde University, he spent 18 months in Lithuania where, as well as teaching English in Secondary schools, he sang in a professional choir and attended the Lithuanian Music Academy where he received conducting lessons.
In 2001 Mark was joint winner of the first RSNO Sir Alexander Gibson Conducting Fellowship, working with the RSNO Chorus and conductors such as Alexander Lazarev and Walter Weller. He also acted as assistant chorusmaster on the Chorus' very successful tour to Copenhagen in June 2002.
In August 2003 Mark was chorusmaster to the Aberdeen International Youth Festival, working with choirs from the Phillipines, Canada, Norway, and Belarus. Mark was appointed Director of the NYCoS Edinburgh Area Choir in October 2005 but has worked with the organisation before, most notably as Assistant Conductor with the National Youth Choir of Scotland on their tour to Chicago in August 2004. He currently also conducts the Kilmarnock and District Choral Union.
Mark currently teaches music at Douglas Academy in Milngavie, Glasgow, and is studying for his PhD in Lithuanian Music at Glasgow University.
