David Lawrence is a freelance conductor, who is increasingly known for his work as an animateur and choral education consultant. He holds a degree in Education with a teaching certificate from Warwick University, for four years worked as the music co-ordinator of a primary school in Tower Hamlets, and on moving to the Midlands as a supply teacher in the Borough of Solihull. He directs workshops with youth choirs and groups of school choirs all over the country, and was responsible for the co-ordination of over twenty choirs who took part in the NAHT Centenary Concert in De Montfort Hall, Leicester, which was broadcast on Classic FM.

In May 1999 David prepared over 900 primary and secondary singers and instrumentalists from the Borough of Bexley for a gala performance in the Royal Festival Hall. For the East of England Orchestra, now known as ViVa, he prepared a community choir for the premiere of Graham Fitkin's 'Perfect Crime', and acted as Chorus Director for Arion and the Dolphin which involved preparing an eighty strong chorus and similarly sized children's choir for a semi-staged performance of Alec Roth's community opera.

David regularly directs school festivals of massed choirs for Leicestershire Arts and Birmingham Music Service. He conducts the training choir of the National Youth Choir of Scotland and his posts at the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus include Choir Leader of Young Voices and Musical Director of the Senior Youth Chorus.

In 1999 David became the Principal Conductor of the Young World Concerts, which bring together record-breaking numbers of people to celebrate young talent in arenas around Britain. In January of last year he conducted the fourth movement of Beethoven’s Choral Symphony with the Hanover Band, Brighton Youth Orchestra, a community chorus and 340 primary school children for whom he had arranged a special vocal line.
