Open up the world of music for you and your child with NYCoS Mini Music Maker classes.
The network of groups was set up in 2002 as an outreach project of NYCoS, aimed at engaging children and parents in singing activities at the very earliest stage.
The theory behind the classes is based on the findings of Zoltán Kodály (see Kodály for more details). He believed that music in early childhood, particularly singing games and rhymes, could enhance child development in many ways. Language, motor skills, memory and concentration are all improved through involvement in simple musical games and activities.
However, the main emphasis in the Mini Music Makers classes is on fun! Puppets, parachutes and percussion instruments are used to ensure the children enjoy themselves, while they are unconsciously learning musicianship skills and absorbing things that will never leave them. Tickling games, bouncing songs, play songs and lullabies from our book Singing Games and Rhymes for Tiny Tots are used in the sessions. It is never too early to start singing with children – they will listen and learn.
Qualified leaders who have been fully trained by NYCoS lead the classes. Parents/Carers bring their children to the weekly 40-minute sessions, but they too must be prepared to join in! Places are allocated on a first come first served basis. Classes will only run if there are sufficient numbers.
