Chicago Tour - August 2004

In August 2004, 84 members of NYCoS, or NCCoS as it was temporarily renamed - see Tour Background, undertook the second NYCoS overseas tour, a two-week visit to Chicago, to perform a series of concerts and to give a radio broadcast.

From this page you can access several reviews from American and Scottish newspapers and read a member's own account of the tour.

Tour Background - Read some background information to the tour including the explanation to the name change.

The Scottish View from Judith Robertson of The Herald:

"An evening of gathering drama.." - the opening concert.

"The fly-past of an American air Force B52 bomber.......NYCoS has sung to more than 40,000 people live...." - Britten's War Requiem opens the final concert.

The American View:

"...all the way from Edinburgh....these gifted young singers covered themselves with glory..." - how the Chicago Tribune saw the opening concert.

"The Grant Park Chorus....is sounding especially impressive these days under the direction of Christopher Bell....with some help from the visiting National Collegiate Chorale of Scotland" - the view of the The Chicago Sun Times

"Covering themselves with glory were the National Collegiate Choral of Scotland, Bell’s apprentice chorale of local university students and the Chicago Children’s Choir, their sound floating in ethereally from offstage." - The Chicago Tribune's response to the final concert.

The Choir Member's view:

NYCOS Goes Global
Touring with NYCoS is special. But what makes it so good, and why do members who declare that it will mark the end of their singing with NYCoS then change their minds? - Hazel Younger, NYCoS member, tells her story.
