He continued
this during his 11 years in Fife by conducting various Regional Choirs
and Orchestras including Fife Youth Orchestra (performances included the
2nd Symphonies of Sibelius and Rachmaninov). At the reorganisation of
local government in 1996 he took early retirement, and was all set for
a life of leisure when contacted by Christopher Bell, and invited to set
up the administration for the first NYCoS summer course. He was immediately
confirmed as the first Administrator of the choir.
25 years ago Bob set up Falkirk Festival
Chorus and continues to be its conductor. The Chorus has performed many
of the major works from the choral repertoire including Messiah, Elijah,
Child of our Time, King David, Belshazzar's Feast, Dream of Gerontius,
Carmina Burana, B Minor Mass, St John Passion and Requiems by Verdi,
Mozart, Brahms and Fauré. For the past three years, Bob has conducted
the Stirling Council Youth Orchestra and has recently been appointed
as conductor of the newly formed Falkirk Schools Youth Orchestra.
Bob has been for over 30 years organist
and choir master of Falkirk Old and St Modan's Parish Church and has
served on the Panel on Worship of the Church of Scotland. His involvement
continues as a member of the Music Committee and also the Committee
for the Revision of the Hymn Book.
Bob has been married to Christine for
over 30 years. Christine is also a musician and works in partnership
with Bob in many of the musical and church based activities. They have
one son, Alasdair, who is the cellist with the Belcea String Quartet.
Bob's hobbies are golf, gardening and
- all too infrequent - hill walking.
