Kodaly Summer School 2017

'Inspiring Music Education through Singing'

Saturday 29 July - Friday 4 August
Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh

This will be our 6th Annual Summer School in Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh and we can't wait!

We welcome back internationally renowned presenters László Nemes (Liszt Academy, Hungary), James Cuskelly (Sound Thinking, Australia), Lucinda Geoghegan (NYCoS and RCS, Scotland) Christopher Bell (NYCoS Artistic Director, Scotland) and Naheed Cruickshank (Colourstrings UK, Scotland).

Last year we were delighted to host Colourstrings Music Kindergarten and Colour Keys methodology courses for the first time. Following the success of these courses, we have invited Professor Géza Szilvay, a violin pedagogue who has had a huge impact on music education worldwide, to deliver the first stage of the Colourstrings Violin Teacher Training course. We are pleased that Yvonne Wyroslawska will be joining the team to deliver Phase 1 of the Music Kindergarten course for those Early Years practitioners who want to progress. We will have Advanced Conducting, Secondary Music and Ensemble Singing with Solfa strands to add to the mix.

Morning warm-up sessions are followed by personal musicianship. All participants have Solfège classes in the morning and will be able to join a class at a suitable level, from Beginner to Advanced. There will be options to take this further with accredited Kodály modules through the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Afternoon sessions offer a variety of options, where participants follow a strand of their choosing. What a great way to study a practical course over the week, with time for in-depth study and the opportunity to ask questions of the tutors.

Optional, fun and inspiring evening sessions will round off the days. Of course, it’s not just about the learning and professional development at a NYCoS Education event, it’s about the networking and exchange of ideas, meeting new people, old friends and having a jolly good time, singing... and dancing!

One of last year’s participants said of the Summer School: "Good for the brain, the ear, the heart and the soul."

We can offer accommodation in single or twin en suite rooms on the beautiful Merchiston campus at very reasonable rates (shared occupancy, all dates - £280.50; single occupancy, all dates - £352.50). All meals are provided.
